Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium is launching a new giant octopus-themed treasure trail.
The trail invites visitors to hunt down hoards of golden coins hidden within the Towan Promenade attraction’s displays.
The event, which takes place daily, is part of an ongoing celebration of all things octopussy over the summer.
Blue Reef Aquarium’s Melissa Hallam said: “Earlier this summer we unveiled a brand new, state-of-the-art display for our giant Pacific octopus.
“The display has been purpose-built to create a stimulating and naturally-themed habitat for the octopus and also allow for greater interaction with our team of aquarists.
“It also provides a much-improved viewing experience for our visitors
“The idea for the treasure trail is our octopus has mislaid her treasure and she needs the visitors help to track it down,” she added.
As part of the celebrations visitors are also being invited to guess the number of suckers on the octopus’ tentacles. There will be family passes up for grabs as prizes.
Newquay’s award-winning Blue Reef Aquarium provides an undersea adventure through the world’s seas and oceans.
Over 40 naturally-themed displays transport visitors from rocky Cornish shores to exotic coral reefs.
At the aquarium’s heart is an amazing ocean tank with underwater walkthrough tunnel which is home to hundreds of colourful fish, tropical sharks and Omiros the rescued loggerhead turtle.
Other displays feature everything from giant Pacific octopus, seahorses and lobsters to cuttlefish, piranhas and caiman crocodiles.
