New brighter uniforms for Aquarists at Newquay’s local aquarium
This week the Aquarist team at Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay are sporting a new royal blue uniform.
Visitors will now be able to spot the aquarists easier as they go about their day providing care to the hundreds of animals in the aquarium.
The aquarists are always willing to talk to visitors about the animals in their charge and answer any fishy questions. Getting some of them to stop talking about their favourite’s can be a problem!
Lara Heaney, Displays Supervisor at Blue Reef Aquarium said: “My favourite resident is Omiros, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta). He’s got so much character and is a real hit with the visitors.
“Omiros wouldn’t survive in the wild due to the injuries he sustained before he was rescued. It’s great to know that what I do here ensures he is happy and fed everyday.” Lara explains.
The newest member of the team Lucy Smith, Aquarist said: “After studying the Red Bellied Piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri) at Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, Peru these are one of my favourite species of fish. Here at the aquarium there is a great display of piranha that are fantastic to observe.
Newquay’s local aquarium offers a large variety of aquatic species from tropical sharks, native ray, seahorses, turtles and hundreds of tropical and freshwater fish.
