Deeply Creepy is well underway at the aquarium this October half-term!
We hope everyone has been enjoying our spooky fun so far discovering the deeply creepy trail, finding sunken cauldrons, and dressing up.
Our amazing aquarists have been dressing up too…
We have lots of creepy creatures you can come face-to-face with.
Our Red-bellied Piranhas have incredible jaw muscles and sharp teeth that allow them to devour flesh right down to the bone in under 30 seconds!
Here are three Piranha facts to send a chill down your spine!
- They have razor sharp teeth, with tooth enamel structure like sharks.
- The word ‘piranha’ means “fish tooth” in Amazonian indigenous languages.
- Fossils have indicated that piranhas have been around for about 25 million years.
We also have long-spined urchins, they have five teeth that protrude out to scrape and eat! They also have venom in their spines!
Stonefish pack enough venom to kill an adult human in under an hour. They also have powerful jaws that can extend out and suck anything hovering over their mouths.
Don’t worry, our fishy friends won’t be missing out on the spooky fun….keep your eyes peeled for some pretty peculiar props and enrichment in our tanks this half term.
