Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium is launching a brand new film-inspired fishy trail for the summer holidays (July 25th-August 7th).
‘Finding Friends’ is a fun and informative trail for forgetful fish which highlights the real-life tales of the fishy characters featured in the new animated Disney film ‘Finding Dory’.
Blue Reef’s very own ‘Dory’ fish enlists the assistance of a giant Pacific octopus to help her find her lost friends around the aquarium.
Visitors will be able to find out more about all the major characters from the movie which are based on real fish species including clownfish, cleaner shrimps, puffer fish, butterflyfish, seahorses, sharks and, of course, a 20-strong shoal of regal tangs like Dory.
As well as the trail there will be a daily programme of talks, workshops and other activities based on the fishy stars with information on conservation projects to help protect species in the wild and things we can all do to help protect and preserve the marine environment.
“When Finding Nemo was released in 2003 the public response was amazing and the interest in clownfish in particular went through the roof,” said Blue Reef Aquarium’s Lara Mingay.
“We’re anticipating a similar level of enthusiasm with the release of the sequel this month and hoping we can use that interest to help instil a greater awareness for the marine environment; both locally and around the world.
“The new trail will give everyone the opportunity to see the actual fish which inspired the characters in the film and learn about their amazing real-life stories in a fun and entertaining way,” she added.
