The team at the Blue Reef Aquarium Newquay have been working every day since the lockdown started to ensure the welfare of their many aquatic creatures.
Daily tasks such as feeding, water changes and quality test as well as enrichment activities all have to continue as normal for the animals.
The cost of feeding the animals including their resident rescued loggerhead turtle Omiros and their newest addition of two baby black tip reef sharks has been covered by the aquarium themselves even though they have zero income as it remains closed to visitors.
Steve Matchett Manager and Curator said “We are keen to open as soon as we can and are currently putting in place the required social distancing measures to enable visitors to have a safe experience.”
In the meantime the staff at the aquarium have been continuing to share images and videos of the animals, feeds and Q & A sessions, with the public during lockdown through the aquariums social media pages.
