These large predatory turtles spend most of their time sitting motionless, waiting for prey to pass and do not need a large enclosure to thrive. Snapping turtles have a ferocious reputation, but are not aggressive by nature.
They use their powerful jaws to catch their prey and defend themselves; unlike other turtle species, the Snapping Turtle can’t contract entirely into its shell so without snapping to defend itself would be very vulnerable.
